Great Stove. I just completed a 3200 mile bike trip and cooked up to five meals a day on my stove. It never let me down. I have no doubt that my stove will last for many more trouble free years. I have a tendancy to abuse my gear too.

This strong lettle stove cranks. I have used it in high wind and rain and it blew right through it all and gave me a hot meal.

Customer Service

this stove is indestructable, so I have never had to return or call about it.

I have used the Whisperlite for 3 years now, and I cannot complian about the stoves operation. The only minor (and I stress, minor) complaint may be the adjustability of the temperature. It ranges between roaring boil to off, but after some time you develop a feel for the stoves adjustments.

A solid little stove. The temperature adjustment seems rather slow, but I agree with the review below (you get used to it). It boils water in a flash and sets up/down quite easily.

Burns very hot, fuel lasts forever. Hard to simmer with, but I just buy foods that don't require simmering because it wastes fuel.

I have nothing bad to say. OK, it can't simmer, so what? When I am done with a long hike or freezing during a winter camping trip I want a stove that gets hot fast, this does. If you are that much into cooking that you care if it simmers hold the pan avove the flame. The best part is that every part on the stove can be replaced if ( and I stress if) it ever fails. If you are worried about stove failure just carry the rebuild kit it only weighs a few ounces and a monkey can maintain the stove in the field.

Customer Service

MSR has great customer service. Go with a proven stove. It burns hot at altitude in cold weather.

I have a XGK but I got my son a Whisperlite for his birthday (he's 10). I think for burning clean fuels this is a better stove. It should last him forever. He doesn't cook when he goes backpacking, just boils water for freeze dried meals or soups so simmering isn't an issue. Priming it was a little hard for him at first but after 5 uses he had no problems. I like it and so does he.

This stove is very light and is very field servicable. It took me a few camping trips to master lighting this thing, but once it is lit you could almost burn a holes through cast iron. flame control could be better. and what's with the silly foil heat reflectors? they are a pain

Love the light weight and compactness of this stove. Does clogg occasionally, but that's only because I'm lazy on the maintenance end. On average, more pricey than models that use propane, but this high initial cost eventually pays off as white gas is cheaper.

I have found this stove works extremely well. It is light weight & compact so it fits into the saddlebags on my MTB nicely. I highly recommend this stove.
