The North Face Mens Denali Jacet Fleece Tops

The North Face Mens Denali Jacet Fleece Tops

DESCRIPTION

The mother of all fleece jackets, this is a TNF staple. A super warm layering piece for cold weather expeditions. It's also a great looking piece for around town on chilly fall days, or cool summer nights in the mountains. With its abrasion-resistant reinforcements, this jacket is also an excellent dry-weather ski or hiking outer layer.

I bought this jacket for $40 from a certified TNF outlet. For the price I could not be happier. It’s warm and comfortable, although I agree that the waist needs a little work. I don't think I would pay as much as some do for it though. It's a great layer for hiking and day-trips, but for multi-day trips it’s too bulky and not versatile enough. I would rather take up the room in my bag with a windproof fleece or a good old fashion wool layer. --The value rating here is for the MSRP, not the bargain I got--

This 300 weight fleece jacket becomes and inferno when zipped inside of my TNF Mountain jacket. If you are active on the trails, you will BURN up (thank goodness for the pit-zips!)

There is no doubt that the jacket will keep you warm (too warm during strenuous activity,) but if you are just lounging around a campsite or kicking back to eat or enjoy some scenery in very cold weather, the Denali jacket is juuuuust right.

As other reviewers have noted, it does have an odd cut to it. Tight across the shoulders and arm pits yet loose across the lower edges. I believe this was done so that the fleece would fit better as a midlayer under a shell (in which it works fine.) It fits really well under TNF jackets, but does feel rather ill fitted to my body.

My advice is to buy a size larger than you normally do though this will cause problems when zipped into your shell. My girlfriend, who is always cold, loves the jacket moreso than I do since it gives her more room and is WARM!

Bottom line: If you find one on sale, get it. Not the best but certainly not the worst I've seen and there are certain (frigid) occasion in which I believe you will find it useful.

I got this jacket from a auction site. I like the jacket but I will agree with some of the other wearers that it is wide at the waist. Other than that, I like the fit. Great all around jacket.

I love this jacket. Fits nicely into my Mountain guide parka. Works well alone on chilly nights. Looks cool, great quality and the North Face offers a great warranty. $160 is too much, but you can easily find these for $100 if you look, at $100 or less it's a great fleece.

The Denali jacket is very warm and very comfortable. The pockets are nice and deep and it fits me well. The only problem I have is the collar, when zipped all the way up, is WAY too small. Not nearly large enough for it intended design. Also, the price is a bit high considereing what else you can get for cheaper. You're paying for the North Face name. Overall, though, this is a pretty good fleece.

I have two Denali jackets, one in blue and the other in charcoal. These are great jackets if there is no precipitation or wind. Great for day hikes on a chilly day and as an insulating layer underneath one of TNF's shell jackets.

I especially like the Napoleon-type pocket accessible by the right hand. It provides convenient access to much-used gear (cell phone, keys, etc.).

The criticism regarding wind is not a particular fault of this jacket as all fleece jackets (except those with the Gore Windstopper or equivalent) are susceptible to penetration by wind.

This is a great jacket for cold weather activities, but it's just too bulky and heavy for long backpacking trips. The polartec 300 fleece is far superior than any other fleece jackets. The abrasion patches have worked well. The one flaw in this jacket is that it doesn't fit well around the waist: it is too wide.

I have never had to send anything in, but if I did I'm sure they would fix it at no extra charge.

You should get a lot more for the price you pay on this jacket. It looks okay but it's functionality is similar to products costing much much less. A price of $50 is reasonable for it. The neck is kind of awkward when zipped up. I don't know why it costs a hundred bucks but I know I only have it because it was a gift. Save your money and buy a no name brand polartec 200.

I wear this jacket constantly. It is wonderful... the only complaint that I have is the fit. The XL _almost_ fits me, but is a bit confining in the chest (especially the arm pits), so I bought a XXL. Holy cow, they really went overboard there... the chest is a little larger, but the gut section is about twice as large. I had to take it in to a seamstress for some major alterations. I like the fact that it will zip into the TNF shells, but I have found that for most activities that is overkill. Bottom line... if you find one of these on sale and it fits you well, buy it!

Only giving it 4 stars for value because $160 is too much. If you shop around, though, you can find one for $100, and that is a reasonable price.
