As far as a mid-weight book goes these are fantastic. I am now on my fourth pair, and can't imagine using another boot. There is something about their fit that adapts to your foot after only a few uses. I am a backpacking guide and therefore live in them for a good part of the year (thus fourth pair). The only thing I would like to see Vasque improve is the quality of their rubber. It really does not compare to a vibram sole. On the whole a great product for hiking and backpacking, even light mountaineering (although they are not insulated and your feet will chill).

I was happy with my boots until I started pushing my outdoor skills. After a year and the first resole the GoreTex bootie came apart at the heel seam. Another year and another resole later the boot began to delaminate from the sole. I had called a Vasque representative before the first resole to find out who to use so that I didn't void my warranty. So I sent them to the company I was told to for both resoles. When the boots started to leak I again contacted Vasque. I was told that the warranty only lasted with the original sole!!! I bought these boots while I was in college. I saved for what seemed like eternity to buy them because they had a ""Lifetime Warranty"". I was able to raise enough hell until they finally offered me a half credit. I still don't think that's fair. These boots are great for campus, day hikes, and light backpacking (less than 30lb pack). They have over exploited this boot. It is no longer made to stay on the trail for a hiker's lifetime.

Customer Service

Don't even think about dealing with their customer service department. If you have to, get a supervisor or sales representative on the phone as soon as you can. Customer service will tell you there is nothing that they can do for you.

These are fine boots. I have had two pair and have hiked many hundreds of miles in them both in Europe and Asia.I found they needed no break in time and were comfortable from the start. They aren't suitable for heavy backpacking, but they are wonderful for day trips and light loads.

Nice boot, took a LONG time to break in (upwards of 40 hours total walking). Blistered both heels for the first trip in them, but no longer. Now, 3 months later, they are my everyday shoe with great warmth, comfort, and durability. Best stability of any boot I've ever owned. Don't recommend mink oil to sopftne the leather, it over softens giving way to the possibility of big ships out when kciking boulders, etc. I would buy another pair in a second, but not for the MSRP.

Of all of the hiking boots I have had over the years, my Sundowners have been by far the best. I have hiked in areas over most of the United States, and even wore them while working in Antarctica (on the warmer days). They have held up remarkably well given the punishment I have dished out. I probably will have to retire my current pair, but will certainly buy myself a new pair in their place. While they may be price at upwards of $200, they are definately worht the coin.

I love these boots. They fit well, were reasonably priced, and they didn't take too long to break in. They are pretty much what I want. Durable, stylish, rugged, and not super heavy. I like vasque's commitment to service, and I hear they have great CS.

Believe me, I know my shoes and these are great boots. As for them falling apart, mine haven't. With proper care and protection these should last you a while. Think of your boots like a leather jacket. If you used your jacket all weekend and got it dirty, would you just through it in a corner and not clean it? You dry clean your jackets why not clean and protect your boots?

I love these boots! I've killed many a good pair of boots in my day. I tend to hike at least once a week and do 3 major hikes a year.. and so far 2 years and running These boots are still good. I do admit the only down side (if there is one) is that it took a while to brake in but once they broke the fit like a glove..
