Just when you think MSR couldn't improve their stove(XGK), along came the Dragonfly. The same roaring power as the XGK, but with the new inline valve, it also has a softer side. This stove will simmer with the best of them, something that was not possible with MSR stoves till this stove came into being. I abused an XGK for about 7 years, and it always came back with no complaints. This stove is very field maintainable and extremely reliable. Can't go wrong with this stove. Customer Service Customer service has been more than willing to work with me on any problems, and even sent me an updated part for my stove at no charge. Excellent service. I've had this stove for a few months now, and am extremely satisfied with it. Priming is easy, and the burner ignites easily when you open the valve as the priming flame is fading down. Very fast boil times, and if you do any kind of cooking past just boiling water, the simmer control is a real delight. The windscreen is quite effective, and does speed up boil times. I've heard others complain about the noise, but it's no louder than the XGK I've used for the last 15 years, and if other campers are in hearing range, I must be doing something wrong. This stove seems to be pretty robust, at least as much as the above mentioned XGK which lasted 15 years of my abusive behavior towards gear. Customer Service MSR has fabulous customer service in my experience, when I've had a problem, I've gotten quick answers how to cure it cheaply by myself. A efficient, powerful stove with fantastic versatility. I can cook anything to perfection with control like I've never had before. Not to mention I can do it anywhere in any climate from the desert in Arizona to the top of Rainier, in pouring rain or in a blizzard you name it and my Dragonfly performs like a champ! I guide many groups on Outdoor Adventure Trips, everything from backpacking, canoeing, winter camping, canyoneering, rock climbing, mountain biking, to summiting Mt.Rainier. I admit the stove is on the loud side when you have it opened up, but you can back off to bring the volume down. I love being able to turn the stove down to a trckle to save fuel and still keep things warm or cooking without burning. It's very helpful when trying to serve many others with a variety of needs. I was a little concerned about how durable the stove would be with the long fuel stem but so far no problemo! Similar Products Used: Wisper Light International. A very good stove in it's own right but it's either on or off. It is the stove of choice if you're looking for quiet. |

I've used this on the last two backpacks I've been on, and am really glad I got this stove. It can go full blast and get a pot of water boiling and was the only stove in the last group I was with that could go lower than blowtorch mode. No problems using it at all. A little heavier than I wanted, but it functions great, which is more important to me. The price is a bit high, but I managed to get it on sale at campmor, so I didn't feel it was too bad. Customer Service Haven't had to call them Similar Products Used: Other people's various MSR stoves |

Although the stove performs as advertised, it is so loud that it borders on objectionable, not only to me but to the neighbors around me. Similar Products Used: I own a sample of probably every gas stove ever made during the past 25 years. |

I own four other stoves including a wisper light and find that my dragon fly is by far the most outstanding stove of them all. It takes little to no time to prime, adjusts from a pilot light flame to blow torch allowing you to boil water in miniuts. It also provides a great amount of heat I went winter camping when the tempature was two degrees above zero. I lit the stove in the vestuble of my tent for five miniuts and it was nice and warm. This is a very good stove for the price compared to other stoves of similar price. |

Picked up this stove on the advice of a friend and so far it has outperformed any of the stoves i have used. It produces a steady heat/flame and allows excellent simmering. It also gives a good piece of mind to be able to use many types of fuels in an emergency. And the saftey valves are a plus. Customer Service It does fair high on the price though. This is the stove to have if you want to do more than boil water. If all you will ever want to eat is freeze dried meals, then you can get by cheaper with a whisperlite. But for the flexability to make grilled cheese, etc this stove is awesome. Buy an outback oven for even more culinary combinations. I initially bought a whisperlite which is a great stove, but after realizing that it was impossible to use for anything but boiling water, I replaced it with the Dragonfly. The only drawbacks are that the Dragonfly is slightly heavier, and not as compact as a Whisperlite. I have not had any troubles with the pumps for either stove. Similar Products Used: None |
